Let's say money isn't an issue. Your new business is a success, and you have plenty. So, close your eyes and imagine what your life would look like.
Are you traveling the world, stopping here and there to check on your business from an Internet café? Are you watching your kids at an after-school soccer game? Are you outside hiking or biking and enjoying a sunny day in the middle of the week? Are you driving a fancy car that you never could have afforded on your old salary?
Before you jump into a business, think about what you want from life. Most people who start businesses just end up making new jobs for themselves. They've traded their old boss for a new one: themselves. And because they don't get to clock out at the end of the day, as they would in a normal job, they end up working harder and longer hours than ever before. They may or may not make any more money than they did before. Even if they make more, they don't have the time to enjoy it. It's no wonder so many businesses don't succeed.
If all you want from life is things, working 12 or more hours a day may be okay, but one thing I've found is that what we really want--far more than we want fancy houses and mansions--is freedom.
We want to be able to set our own hours and take a day off when we feel like it. To my mind, that is a far greater fortune than all the money I've earned or all the money I may earn in the future.
Figure out what you want your life to look like, and then figure out how to build a business that will get you there. If you create the business first, you may be chasing freedom and happiness for the rest of your life.
as i said i should have recorded the initial resting voltage but it should be clear observing the charging voltage on the meter that this battery is not "good". hopefully when im done it will be. but this is basically the rundown of what happens when you restore a junked battery. and yes i know "capacitance" may not be the correct wording, "potential" is probably better, but capacitance is how i see it lol.. but note this battery was given to me totally f'ed up. rested at under 1V and refused to accept any DC. 6 or so hours of DC 2A and it fell right back to 1v soon as i disconnected.. this is how you know the battery is no good duh... well after a good while of leaving it on the pulse charger, it finally started absorbing a charge. at first the neon would stay lit and the meter would read as if the circuit was unloaded. this is because the battery has no capacitance as it were. over time you can begin to see the neon flicker as if to say a little bit was being absorbed. eventually the neon totally goes out indicating the battery is now wanting to suck up some juice, and this is also indicated by the output voltage across the meter which should have steadily dropped. i am looking for the voltage to keep dropping until it has reached its normal level around 12 to 13v, at which point it COULD go back on a regular car charger, but i will let it fall to 12v 13v and wait til it starts rising again and reaches maybe 14 or 15v.. if all goes well this will happen in few days and ...
A few of my jumpers experienced approach run difficulties a little while ago. Here is an account of one session I did with a 25 year old female jumper with a pb of 5.91m [5.83m this indoor season].
She told me that the previous weekend it didn't matter where she placed her first checkmark she was fouling constantly and simply didn't feel right. So my coaching task was to restore her confidence in the approach run distance so that she could go into the next meeting and be able to run and jump effectively.
We did some approach run work away from the sand pit. I marked her approach run on the indoor track at Cardiff. We reinforced the concepts of how to start the approach run, the mid-phase body alignment and the attack to the board with emphasis on a good touchdown. She did 6 repetitions with no pressure of the board. But what we did additionally was to place a check mark at the fifth foot-fall. She is a left legged take-off with a 17 stride approach run which measured at 32mts. I wanted to her attain some consistency over the first 5 strides - this fifth stride touchdown was with her take-off foot.
She did a set of 6 of the initial start but slowing down at the half-way mark of her run-up. She was made aware that she had to be 'busy and effective' over the initial strides. This 'extra focus' appeared to help her. I told her to sight this check mark to ensure that her toe hit it.
NOTE: The overcoming of inertia [starting from a static position] is sometimes a large problem for inexperienced jumpers.
We then transferred to the run way and pit. The 5 stride check mark was set down and marked with a small chalked circle.
She also has a second check mark 8mts away from the board which coincides with the last 3 strides to the board.
We found that these check marks not only helps me to sight accuracy to the board but focuses the jumpers attention to maintaining balance, rhythm and coordination over the whole approach run distance. Also, some jumpers have a nasty habit of not maintaining an active drive all the way to the board - this something I insist upon because arms contribute approximately 30% to the lift at take-off.
After many repetitions of this she then jumped - NOT ONE FOUL - and she was jumping out to 90% of her personal best performance. I wouldn't and don't expect jumpers to jump really long in training because they simply haven't that adrenalin boost and competitive anxiety to put a big one out there. So I am happy with 90%.
Checks marks are an invaluable coaching tool and can really help the jumper focus on the different phases of the whole run-up distance.
Another thing we did was to visualise. She wasn't allowed to start the approach run until ALL she could see was a white lined 'tunnel' to the pit. This she could very well but does take a little practice. The last thing I asked her to do was to keep her eyes on the board right up until the last two strides. I even encouraged her to look at the board at the moment of touchdown. Some coaches might disagree with this because it might lead to unwanted rotation but you don't have to tilt the head forwards merely focus the eyes on that white board.
At the conclusion of the session we measured her approach run distance and it had gone from 32ms to 32.60mts. This is the distance she will use for her next competition. FINGERS CROSSED!!
She liked the idea of including relevant check marks along the distance and we will use them a lot more in our technical sessions.
A Vertical Jump is the sole use of the muscles to elevate the center of gravity of the body in the vertical plane. It determines how high a person can lift himself from the ground starting from a standstill. The Jump is crucial in basketball, volleyball, football and track and field events. To measure the Vertical Jump, the person has to stand near a flat wall having a flat surface. Then, the person has to take several jumps from a standstill position. The distance for the highest jump from the flat surface is better known as the vertical jump.
Vertical Jump Test
The Vertical Test Mat provides an accurate vertical height result. In this, a waist belt is attached to the measuring tape. This tape is connected to the mat. The tape has to be set to zero and then the athlete has to jump. The reading on the tape is the required value. The Jump test provides an idea of lower body power. A commercially available device called as Vertec is commonly used to measure the jump. The results of the jump height test should not be compared with quantitative power measurements from tests like the 1RM power clean.
Strength
The ideology to Improve Vertical Leap is based on the assumption that power is a product of strength and speed. To Improve Vertical Jump, the athlete must concentrate on producing power. So, he has to enhance his strength and speed. The first step to Improve Vertical Jump is to increase Strength. It can be proved that most of the force required for a jump is generated by the posterior chain consisting of the calves, hamstrings, lower back, glute muscles and the quadriceps, which is a part of the anterior chain. Hence, the two optimum lifts are the full back squat and the deadlift.
Speed
The second step is to raise speed. This can be done by two types - Plyometric exercises and Explosive training. However, these exercises have to be done after the athlete has gained a good strength. Only after he can exert a good force, the time has to be reduced so that more power is generated. Explosive training includes jump squats or power cleans. Another important factor to Improve Vertical Leap is the Flexibility of the Achilles Tendon. This also affects the vertical jump and care must be taken to avoid tearing of the tendon.

Owning a car involves more than just making sure the fuel tank is full, that there is windshield wiper fluid in the car and that the tire pressure is not below the stated number in the owner's manual. Everyone that owns a car should know how to change a tire, change the oil and should know how to jump start the battery in their car in case the car stalls while on the road. Jump starting a car is not as easy as it sounds and there are a handful of steps that need to be followed for the jump start to be completed successfully and safely.
The first step in jump starting a car is to park the jumper car in close proximity to the stalled vehicle. Usually most jumper cars are placed only five feet or so from the stalled car with their fronts facing each other. Just make sure that the two cars do not touch in any way. Make sure you use clean jumper cables and never let them dangle into the engine compartment where they can get caught on belts or the fan. Once the jumper cables have been readied for the project, make sure the ignition is off in both cars and set the parking brake of each car. Make sure either car is in neutral or park. Turn off all lights and radios but put the hazards on if you are on the side of a road.
Now you can begin the jumping process. Place one of the positive jumper cables onto the positive terminal of the battery of the stalled vehicle. Then connect the other positive end of the cable to the positive end of the battery terminal in the jumper car. Now attach the negative end of the cable to the negative end of the battery terminal on the jumper car. Attach the other negative end of the cable to an unpainted metal surface on the engine of the stalled car. By doing this, the vehicle is now further grounded.
Before performing the jump start, make one final check to make sure that the jumper cables are securely attached to the vehicle and are not near any moving parts on the engine. Now you can start the jumper car and let it idle for a handful of minutes. Once the idling has been done for around five minutes you can now start the stalled car. Once the stalled vehicle is started, make sure that both vehicles stay on and have them idle for another five minutes or so. If the stalled vehicle won't start, do not keep trying. This will lead to damage of the starter on the stalled vehicle.
Once you are able to start the stalled car you can disconnect the starter cables. Take them off in the reverse order of how you put them on. Also, do not let them touch each other or anything under the hood. To be sure that the stalled vehicle will not stall again, take it to an auto body shop for a complete battery charge and quick once over.

Gerald Green Dunks Or How To Increase Vertical Jump
Ok, Gerald Green finished second this year in the Slam Dunk Contest (2008). His birthday-cake-dunk was sick, but the one between the legs with no shoes on wasn't necessary - he can do better!
But have you seen Gerald Green's 2005 summer league dunk where he - just like Vince Carter at the 2000 Olympics - jumped over a 7 footer for the dunk?
What about the 2005 McDonald's All-American Slam Dunk Contest that he won? And in case you forgot, Green won the NBA Slam Dunk contest in 2007!
In this contest, Green first made a two-handed slam on an alley-oop pass off the side of the backboard from teammate Paul Pierce. Then he jumped over fellow finalist Nate Robinson while wearing the No. 7 Celtics jersey of 1991 dunk champion Dee Brown - and shielding his eyes in the crook of his elbow in an homage to Brown's memorable no-look dunk.
"I knew they were going to be tough, because those guys had the creativity and the dunking style," Green said about the famous judges Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Julius Erving.
"I tried to come out with something they never did before, and hopefully they could give me a score." - Gerald Green
At the end of the contest, G-Money effortlessly leaped over a 3-foot table for a windmill jam.
"That boy has some serious hops," Nate Robinson said after that dunk, eyes wide. "Kid can fly."
Actually, Gerald Green has the highest vertical leap in the NBA by now - 48 inches!
The 6'8''/ 200 lbs. shooting guard jumps so high, he has to watch out not hitting the rim with his head! On one occasion in high school, Green went higher than expected and cut his head on the rim.
"If you're trying to glide, you want to get your footwork right,'' said Green. ''If you don't get your footwork right, you won't accelerate as far or glide as far or get as high as you need to get. Then, at the height of the dunk, you want to reach your peak. That's where you want to get the ball where it needs to be. Sometimes I don't reach my peak. I dunk and then I seem to go a little higher then I fall down. It has happened before. I'm just trying to put the ball in a certain area." - Gerald Green

Well, besides the excellent, but common exercises like jump rope, calf raises and squats, there are some very effective exercises only few people know about:
Thrust ups:
Starting position: Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, and close your knees. Then jump up only using your calves, only bending at the ankles. When your land, go jump again as high as possible.
Burnouts:
Starting position: feet shoulder width apart, knees closed. Now go up on your toes und jump up only using your toes.
Laundry Jumps:
Take an object - a bag or something like that - and try to jump laterally over it. It can be between 10 and 20 inches high. Try to jump as high and far as you can back and forth over object.

Jump and try to bring your left leg up to your chest. Then do the same with the other leg.

This is important among athletes because it determines whether they can tackle their opponent with great power and agility. Using jump techniques can affect the results, reliability and interpretation of the test.
What are some of the jump techniques?
Squat Jump / Static Jump
Basically, the vertical jump test is done as a squat or static jump. Using this method, the player assumes a stable semi squatting position and then jumps, making pauses between jumps lower than the level of their starting point. This affects the stretch shortening cycle or the pre stretching of the muscles making the jump smaller than the average.
Counter Movement Technique
A jump is usually accompanied by a counter movement wherein the knees are bent instantly before the jump. Starting a Car With Jumper Cables - A Step by Step Guide
I will try to explain the procedure needed to start a car with jumper cables. The process is not that simple as it looks on the first sight. There are a few things you need to consider. If you follow this protocol, everything should go as planned.
First check if the car does not start because of the battery. If the engine cranks when you turn the key, the problem is not the battery and jump-starting will not do any good. If you determine that the battery is the problem then you will need another car with good batteries and jumper cables. Here is how the procedure goes.
Turn of the engine of the booster car. That is the car with good batteries that we will use to start the car with the empty battery. On the car that you are trying to jump-start you must turn of all the electrical equipment and turn the switch for engine starting off. Connect positive terminal (+) of both batteries with one of the jumper cables. For the positive terminal, or the plus terminal, use the red jumper cable. The positive terminal is usually slightly bigger than the negative. Never connect the batteries when the booster car is running.
Then put one end of the jumper cable (black) on the negative terminal (-) of the booster cars battery. Connect the other end of the black cable to an metal part of the other cars engine. If you cannot connect to a metal part, put it to the negative terminal of the other battery (-). You should do this only if there is no other way.
You must also make sure that jumper cables do not touch any moving parts of the engine. If you have completed all these steps, then you can start the engine of the booster car. You should then rev the engine. Now you can try to start the engine of the other car. If you are not successful after about 15 seconds, you must wait at least a minute before trying again. When you have successfully started the other cars engine, you should leave both running for 2-3 minutes. Before you disconnect the cables from the other car you should turn the heating of the rear window on. This will prevent high current jumps. After that, you can disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order of attachment: negative, negative, positive, positive.
Starting the engine with jumper cables should be used only when there is no other option. Make sure you follow the correct procedure when starting the car. If you do not, big voltage jumps can occur. These jumps can damage cars electronics.
